Deck of Scarlet Makeup Palette Edition #06

Deck of Scarlet – new makeup subscription is a bi-monthly makeup subscription for $29.95. It was started by the same people bring us Scentbird. Every other month you get a palette with three eye shadows, two lip colors, two face colors, and one or two add ons. It allows you to create a multitude of looks with one easy to store palette. I’ve been subscribed to Scentbird since early last year so signing up for Deck of Scarlet was a no brainer.

Make sure to check out our other Deck of Scarlet reviews!

Another really cool thing about this company is the ability to buy stand alone palettes until they are out of stock (they are limited edition after all). This is great for newcomers that have missed the previous ones. There is a price difference versus how much you pay with a subscription. While the subscription only costs $29.95 per palette (with the ability to skip any you don’t want), a stand alone palette is $44.95. As the time of writing, this palette is still available for purchase.

The products are super pigmented, cruelty free, and made in the US!

Eyes

Each palette typically comes with three dedicated eye shadows although sometimes the two larger cheek colors can be used on the eyes as well. The first color in this one is called Aurora. After trying everything out the best way to describe this color is a pale gold. It is a beige color but it has some shimmer to it. I had a little trouble getting a good color payoff with this one without using some Fix+ from MAC along with it so it is my least favorite in the palette.

The second color is called Space. It is a beautiful taupe color that is a perfect match with both of the other colors. It makes creating a smokey eye look with this palette effortless. I enjoy using it in the crease the most.

Third is Gravity. It’s a grey that on its own is a cool metal color that lives up to it’s name. Paired with the warmer colors of this palette it shifts to fit right in. It is by far my favorite part of the palette and I can’t wait to pair it with some other cool tone colors.

Not pictured is the Galaxy eyeliner. It’s a slate colored liquid eyeliner in a pen type applicator. It goes on smooth and is the perfect companion to Gravity.

Lips

Deck of Scarlet has some really unique and creamy lip products. I have found some of the colors repetitive over the last year but I was really happy to see Venus in this one. It’s a bright berry color that has more of a cooler tone to it.

Astro is the other lip color and its also more of a taupe color. While I enjoy both of these colors separately I think it would be really fun to mix the two together.

Face

This edition comes with a highlighter and a cheek color. Sometimes these two can be used on the eyes as well but so far I don’t find that to be the case with Stardust and Stellar. Stardust is a warm champagne color that is a great pop of highlight. It fits really well with Aurora and Space.

Stellar on the other hand is a mix between a mauve and a taupe. On my skin it looks like a deep purple color and I didn’t feel like it fit well with the warmer colors of the palette. It does pair well with the Venus lip color and Gravity eye shadow though.

TL;DR

Overall, this space themed palette is good at best. While you can get a lot of different looks from it, I didn’t feel like the colors went well together. I have not been a fan of the complete looks I’ve done only using this palette. That makes it a little harder for me to like since I feel the need to include other products with it.

About

What is Counter Culture? Well, Webster’s refers to it as: “a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the prevailing social norm.” They’re right of course, and over here at Not your Counter Culture, we want to elaborate on that variance. From food, music and lifestyle commentaries, to social issues and culture in every sense of the word. This blog is a collaborative collection of what’s new, what’s trending, and what truly makes folks like us a little more out of the ordinary.
