Makeup: Black Moon Cosmetics
By now, you’ve heard the news about Jeffree Star and Manny MUA’s new collab project, which means you also know that they were (albeit for a very brief period) in hot water for ripping off an indie brand’s logo. What you might not know is that very indie brand, Black Moon Cosmetics, is a fantastic find. Before all of the drama, Black Moon was creating some of the most innovative liquid lipsticks on the market. Even more recently they’ve launched an extensive line of holographic cosmic eye dusts for those of the dark side persuasion. Cruelty free and vegan, Black moon cosmetics holds up as one of the most stunning and one of a kind indie lines on the market. After all, isn’t imitation the sincerest form of flattery?
Music: The Austin 100
SXSW is celebrating 30 years of cutting edge music and media in 2017. For the past few years, NPR’s Stephen Thompson has compiled the perfect list of artists to check out prior to diving deep into the abyss of Austin’s most prized event. This playlist is curated with the listener in mind and Thompson goes as far as to give you a heads up about each song prior to pressing play. Every year it’s worth a listen and this year is no exception.
Tarot: Serpent Fire Tarot Deck
Tarot desks are known for being stunning works of art. I was awestruck when I came across the Serpent Fire tarot deck by Devany Wolfe over on Hoodwitch. These cards are filled with modern day resonance that hints back to the 70’s, and stunning digital imagery that is downright trippy. Wolfe explains that this deck lends to interpret awakening, and represents Kundalini energy. For the gypsy witch that’s looking for a new Thoth inspired deck. You won’t want to pass this one up!
Television: 13 Reasons Why
I have to admit, I’m a whodunnit addict. Not to mention, I love drama (so long as it’s on my TV screen). This was both of those things and so much more. If Pretty Little Liars and Stranger things had a passionate love affair in the janitor’s closet, the 13 Reason’s why would be their intellectual and complex offspring. This isn’t your ordinary teen drama. The characters have layers and the story is compelling, not to mention it’s beautifully shot. The show can be outlandish at times and there are moments when mental health issues are completely overlooked, which is why I would recommend noone under the age of 15 watch this show. But if you’re tall enough to ride this ride, I recommend giving it a shot. It’s binge worthy Netflix television you don’t want to miss.
Grab some popcorn and get comfy. You can find 13 Reasons Why on Netflix.
DIY: Homemade smudge sticks
Guys, it’s finally Spring! The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing and the snow from this year’s bi-polar winter has finally melted. You know what that means? Spring cleaning! Bring out the feather duster and make sure you sweep under the rug, it’s time for new beginnings and why not start off on the right foot? Another thing you shouldn’t forget to tidy up is that negative energy, and what better way to do that than with homemade smudge sticks. You can find easy recipes in every corner of the internet (especially pinterest), but stay tuned for our very own version coming to NYCC in the very near future.
Perfume: Tokyo Milk’s Neptune and the Mermaid Line
One of our favorite perfumeries has just launched a new line of scents that we can’t wait to get our hands on! Neptune & the Mermaid is a nautical collection of three fragrances filled with mystery and ingenue, but as they say, everything is not as it seems. I want to test drive Anthemoessa, which carries notes of jasmine, salted grapefruit, honeysuckle and sandalwood. Don’t forget to take a peek at their hand cremes and lip balms like pucker up Poseidon as well.
Good Eats: Chocolate skulls from Black Chocolate Co.
Chocolate bunnies have always been a staple for the Easter holidays, and although there’s nothing more satisfying or morbid as chewing off the head of a tasty rodent, the folks over at Black Chocolate Co, had something a little spookier in mind. Their chocolate skulls are anatomically correct hollow works of ART. Choose from your standard milk chocolate or the limited edition, all too realistic to eat, white chocolate skull to tickle your fancy. You’ve been warned though, these things are too damn gorgeous to eat.
Makeup: Sailor Moon lipstick
Nostalgia must be a thing for us older millennials, and I’m surely not going to complain. Especially after this new set of Sailor Moon moisture rouge lipsticks from Japanese brand Creer Beaute launched. These sheer, glossy lipsticks even change color based on your PH levels. The 5 colors range from light pink to ruby red, but most importantly, the cases resemble the characters that we know and love and are named after them too! Although we may not be able to get our hands on them any time soon (sources are looking at a US release around June 2017) it doesn’t hurt to add these hydrating lip colors to our wish lists.
You may have to use the translate button, but you can take a look at Creer Beaute’s website here. Plus, take a look at our Nostalgia pinterest board for other ‘90’s inspired products.
